Community building

Melvita works with the Réseau Cocagne network to develop beekeeping in organic market gardens.

The Réseau Cocagne currently consists of 100 gardens, which employ 4,000 "reintegrating" gardeners and 700 supervisors. Its objective is to help people who have major social and economic difficulties to reintegrate.

By funding beekeeping training and investing in equipment, Melvita provides support for gardens that wish to use beekeeping as a community-building tool that will also help the gardeners to reintegrate into society.

Philippe Seigne, market garden supervisor

"Our objective is to help people with difficulties to get back into the workplace. The beehives set up in our gardens help to pollinate our crops and get our employees even more involved. Beekeeping is an excellent community-building and social-integration tool."

IN THE PAST 4 YEARS:

• 18 million bees

• 300 beehives set up
